’Throughout the last year, I’ve been training under the supervision of Adventure Fitness Consultants. I’ve found them to be extremely motivating and knowledgeable. Through regular sessions, I’ve found my fitness improving and this has translated well into my climbing.’
How do I know if it's right for me?Once we connect you can decide after a consultation whether or not you’d like to work with us. If you decide to proceed you will be sent a link connecting your training peaks account to Tom (your coach) and all the information you need to get started!
What is included?Included with the plan is a premium Training peaks account which you use to follow your plan, log workouts, track progress and much more. During the first few weeks you will be set fitness tests to establish current performance and Sam will schedule a physical exam usually remotely to check for any weaknesses which may effect the programme later. If necessary we may spend some time working on Sam's findings. Tom will start to schedule his own workouts for you to complete and will be to hand for any additional support you may need. This can be video analysis of strength workouts; often sent via WhatsApp or technical advise/ training such as climbing or winter specific skills to help prepare you for an expedition.
What is remote coaching and how does it work?TrainingPeaks is designed to be a virtual environment for you and your coach to work together in. Here’s how it works: your coach will schedule detailed workouts for you in your TrainingPeaks account. Once you complete your workout, you’ll upload your workout file from your device to TrainingPeaks where your coach will be able to analyze the metrics from your workout. Communication is carried out via TrainingPeaks, text, email, phone, etc.
Why train with us?Our training plans incorporate physical, mental and skill preparation as we believe it takes all three to reach success. Tom is a level 2 TrainingPeaks Accredited Coach. This means he has attained the highest level of TrainingPeaks certification. This involves completing TrainingPeaks University and demonstrating expert ability to utilize metrics in TrainingPeaks to optimize your training. He is also a qualified climbing guide and experienced expedition leader. Not only this you will also benefit from the highly experienced team which includes Sam (physiotherapist) and Michaela (dietitian)
Can I fit training into my busy schedule?YES! How much time you’ll need for training is largely determined by what your goals are. Our coaches specialize in working with time-crunched athletes and busy professionals. The beauty of personalised coaching (compared to using a pre-made training plan) is that your coach will work with your available time and specific schedule to maximise your training.
How long do I need to sign up for?Minimum is four months. However if you are not completely satisfied with your programme you can cancel at any time. Simply message Tom and he will do this for you.
I used Adventure Consultants for a period of training specifically to boost winter climbing performance. I found an alternative approach helped invigorate my training and identify weaknesses. It opened my eyes to the benefits of focussed training for power/strength rather than just training endurance. Helpful to have an objective program as well. I felt more confident on lead in the knowledge I was actually training for hard, steep climbing specifically. Tom Horrocks was always available to chat through ideas and being a climber himself it was fun to have his enthusiasm to remind me he was on the same page and really understood what I was after.
